Food

It all starts with soil.

A wise person once said “all of human existence depends on the top six inches of soil”. We agree.

Unfortunately, there are problems with the way that we have been growing food. The USDA estimates that we are losing over 2 billion tons of topsoil every year. This is primarily due to our industrial agriculture practices.

Permaculture is a design system for changing how we grow food. This is a transition from annual, mono culture based food production, to perennial, polyculture based food production.

We research, design and teach about food forests. They come in all shapes and sizes, from small backyards to thousand acre farms. The forest part is important, because there is so much to learn in a forest. They are nature’s classroom. The lesson’s learned can be applied to not only our food systems, but to every other aspect of our lives.
